因为众神中的普罗米修斯過份关心人类，於是恼火了宙斯。
宙斯在争夺神界時，就是得到普羅米修斯及其弟伊皮米修斯的帮助，而能登上宝座。
普罗米修斯的名字即「深谋远虑」的意思。
而其弟伊皮米修斯的意思为「后悔」，所以兩兄弟的作风就跟其名字一样，有著「深谋远虑」及「后悔」的特性。
潘朵拉被创造之後，就在宙斯的安排下，送給了伊皮米修斯。
因為祂知道普罗米修斯不会接受祂送的礼物，所以一開始就送給了伊皮米修斯。
而伊皮米修斯也接受了她，在举行婚礼时，宙斯命令众神各将一份礼物放在一個盒子里，送給潘朵拉當礼物。
而众神的礼物是好是坏就不得而知了。
伊皮米修斯的胞兄普罗米修斯就警告伊皮米修斯， 千万不要接受宙斯的禮物，尤其是女人，因为女人是危险的动物。
而伊皮米修斯就跟其名字一般，娶了潘朵拉之后沒多久，就开始后悔了。
因為潘朵拉除了善妒，贪婪，愛美外，最大的缺點就是好奇心了。
从結婚以后，她就不段地想打開众神送的小盒子，而伊皮米修斯却要时时刻刻的提防她的好奇心，因为他知道盒子里的礼物未必都是好的。
有一天，潘朵拉的好奇心战胜了一切。
她等伊皮米修斯出门后，就打开了盒子，結果一团烟冲了出來，將一切礼物全都释放。
這里面包含了幸福、瘟疫、忧伤、友情、灾祸、愛情‧‧‧
潘朵拉害怕极了，赶紧将盒子盖上，但一切都已經太迟。
盒子內只剩下「希望」。
於是潘朵拉抱著「希望」等著伊皮米修斯的归來。
至今，它一直是人类生活动力的來源，因为它帶給人类无穷的「希望」，不管遭遇何种困境，它是人类一切不幸中唯一的安慰。
In the story of ancient Greece, the god of Prometheus stole fire from the heaven for human. And then human learned to utilize fire for their lives, which made Zeus furious. Therefore, Zeus required his son Hephaestus to make a woman with clay called Pandora, which meant "the person endowed with all the merits". She was a fabulous woman with extraordinary beauty. Every god conferred her with a talent to make her perfect. Aphrodite gave her beauty, Hermes made her eloquent and Apollo presented her with the gift of music. Finally, Zeus gave Pandora a box, in which there were disasters and plagues.
Then Zeus sent Pandora to the earth to Empathies, the brother of Prometheus. Prometheus was sure that Zeus had an ill will towards human, so he warned Empathies not to take anything from the heaven. Unfortunately, Empathies was an honest and kind man and took Pandora as his wife. After their marriage, Pandora was often left alone at home because her husband had to help the human with their lives. And Pandora always wondered what was hidden inside the box.
One day, when Pandora was all by herself at home, she could not resist her curiosity and opened the box Zeus had given to her. However, there was nothing but all kinds of catastrophes in the box. Before Pandora opened the box, there were no disasters on the earth, and people lived a serene and happy life, since all the disasters were kept inside the box to free people from misfortune. But due to Pandora's ignorance and curiosity, plagues fled from the box and spread on the earth. From that time on, human began to suffer from all kinds of disasters such as disease and plague, misfortune and misery, selfishness and greed, madness and jealousy, pomposity and cruelty.
In a panic, Pandora immediately closed the box and hope was left in the box. Hope was secretly placed in the bottom of the box because Athena did not want to see the destruction of humans. Therefore, even though people go through all the sufferings, they are able to keep hope in their heart and stay hopeful about their life and future.
